"They just want our money! all of them! That's why they're always prescribing statins! It's all a lie!"

If you pay enough attention to the keto/ketovore/carnivore social media space, especially folks talking about cholesterol, you'll very frequently find claims that hospitals and doctors and those involved in the health care system only want your money. They don't want to heal you, they want you paying for drugs for the rest of your days.

A nice narrative to pitch, to be sure, and not without some nuggets of truth either. However, I do not believe that's 100% of the case.

The system still has to follow the federal guidelines or risk a lot of legal and financial problems. There is also the actual unfortunate fact that there is a LOT of money in the proverbial "legal drug peddling" space around personal health.

Doctors and practitioners do have to follow the guidelines of the places they work at or else they face their own legal troubles. Many doctors and practitioners may also still be unaware of new data and findings that have come out since they last opened up some books and read some studies. To be fair, that's on them to try and do, but it's still a fact of the matter.

Many doctors and practitioners, hopefully more and more each day, as well as the new ones graduating from medical school recently, are going to (hopefully) be more up to date on the new data. For those who have been around for awhile, they went above and beyond to stay current. They want to share and spread this new information about new methods and treatments. However, because of their workplace guidelines, they simply can't because it'd lead to a bunch of their own legal troubles.

Some even have gone against that grain and promoted the new findings, and they've lost their positions, or faced lengthy legal proceedings, even winning sometimes.

The point being, is I don't think every single person in the medical profession is out to get you on Metformin, or whatever other statins and "life saving" pharmaceuticals are out there, many would love to suggest "alternatives" that actually treat the root symptoms instead of just reacting to the symptoms' effects, but until they're freed from the handcuffs, it's just more painless to stay the course and write that 'script and usher you along.

The best thing you can do, is start attempting to educate yourself on the "alternative options" available, and try some out, to see how they work for you. Don't be afraid to bring up what you've tried with your personal care physician. Also, dare ask "what do you really want to suggest to me? you know 'off the record'." followed up with "I'll take that into consideration" or so. I'm curious how many would lower their voice for their real suggestions.
